Hot Tub
and Pool Water Care Basics

How to maintain the
Water Balance
of your hot tub, spa or swimming pool. Some spa
and pool owners use too many chemicals in the water. It's easy to
follow
Carefree's Spa Care Guide
for crystal clear water. The hot tub water should always
be clear to see the head of a dime on the bottom and there
should not be any funky odors. A cloudy or smelly spa is the
sign of dangerous bacteria or biofilm. If the
Spa Care Guide,
Water Problem Solver
or
Weekly Water Test
does not help you to correct water quality
issues, we provide complimentary in-store water testing, analysis
and consultation.

CIRCULATE:
Hot Tub or pool water should be set to the highest level of
circulation The more the water moves in the vessel the
harder it is for bacteria or algae to grow. It is
important to filter out debris and swimmer's waste (dead skin
cells, cake make up, self-tanners, insects, etc.).
FILTER: The
hot tub spa filter is one of the most important tools in your spa or
swimming pool. It removes debris and most microscopic
particles. A filter should be backwashed (pool) or rinsed (spa
or pool) frequently.
CLEAN: For
a pool, the walls and floor should be brushed or vacuumed at
least once per week during the season. A spa at least
quarterly. If you can not do this then retain an automatic
pool cleaner or retain a weekly (pool) or bi-monthly (spa)
service from Carefree. See spa and pool cleaning services.
SANITIZE:
Some sanitizers such as chlorine or bromine kill bacteria.
Mineral ionization and salts inhibits the growth of bacteria.
Use sanitizer in your spa or pool to prevent bacteria from
taking over.
OXIDIZE:
Sanitizers do not handle swimmer's waste such as body lotions,
make-up, dead skin cells or insects. Add an oxidizer once per
week such as shock which is an agent to oxidize swimmer's waste.
BALANCE:
With
the exception of
AquaFinesse, most spa or pool water care systems require
weekly water tests or more frequent with larger bather loads to
determine the pH levels, the presence of sanitizers and calcium
hardness of the water in the vessel. Testing helps
identify water balance issues before they become skin diseases
or skin irritation issues.

SAVE TIME WITH A
CAREFREE SPA -
As you manage your busy lifestyle, you have more
important things to do than worry about the water
maintenance of your spa.
Carefree offers
four levels of water protection that include:
1)
AquaFinesse™
developed in Europe, is a hot tub, spa and pool water
treatment system that uses organic salts and minerals.
It is a bio-film
dispersal technology that reduces chemical use by 80%
compared to other systems. A once per week dosage
combined with skin softeners and lavender odor, makes
hot tub and swimming pool water care easy.
Internationally-renowned testing
and certification institute, KEMA, approved AquaFinesse.

2) Ionization
that is made up of either zinc or silver such as Nature
2 purifier or Sundance Spa Sun Purity in conjunction with appropriate
sanitizer and non-chlorine shock. With
this system the required sanitizer level is reduced by
50% and bromine is not necessary.

3) Bromine/Chlorine
is one of the oldest proven method of water care. If used correctly
and in
moderation, it can be a carefree system.

Water Balance.
4) Salt
Spa. This method provides a high level of cleaning to eliminate
harmful bacteria and to enhance the health benefits of
the spa experience. The salt
system
transforms mildly salted water (one-tenth the salt
concentration of sea water) into chlorine that is
necessary to completely sanitize your spa water. No more packaged chlorine, bromine, or spa
shock to clean your water.
Call Carefree at 303-321-9500 to see if it makes sense
to convert your existing hot tub into a salt spa with
chlorine generator system.
