Most of you have seen this TV commercial blasting several times an hour as they have targeted sales in the your local market and it is this weekend. They had a spa and swim spa event at the National Western Complex this time last year and again in February, May, June, and July 2018.
The Spa Expo, the Spa Pool and BBQ Show or 888-SPA-SALE is always “this weekend only” or a three day event (Friday through Sunday) at the National Western Complex, the Colorado Springs Event Center or some other local fairground or venue.
ONLY ONE HOT TUB AND SWIM SPA MANUFACTURER
The sales teams, along with their ads, claim that this business represents major spa manufacturers under one roof, however, they represent only one spa manufacturer, Master Spas Manufacturing, based in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. What you will not find are any top tier spa manufacturers, such as Coast Spas, the World’s Best Built Hot Tubs.
THE TRAVELING SPA EXPO OR 888-SPA-SALE IS NOT HONEST
Buyers beware as there are many facts you should know before buying a hot tub or swim spa from this “travelling spa show” business. You should avoid this spa show at all costs.
BEFORE YOU BUY A HOT TUB OR SWIM SPA, DO YOUR RESEARCH A hot tub or a swim spa is an investment and should not be an “impulse buy”. Because they are travelling show, (with shows in two to three different markets each weekend), it is difficult to research their reputation and reviews. The travelling spa show business operates under multiple names, and unless you dig, it is difficult to find legitimate consumer reviews.
Some of the names they operate under include Spa Pool BBQ Show, Poolspabbqshow, poolandspashow, Master Pool & Spa and 888-SPA-SALE. They all have the same ownership and a poor reputation. For example, in one of the Master Pool & Spa BBB reviews, they denied they were the poolandspashow because of the “drive by customer service” reputation that precedes them. This company is not from your area and they do not provide “after the sale support.”
Once you have read the reviews, you will quickly determine that the majority of the consumers that attended the show and purchased a hot tub or swim spa are left with a bad taste in their mouth. They claim that with the show’s high-pressure closing tactics, lack of concern for the customer, and lack of after the sale customer support is not what they expected.

THE PRICES AREN’T THAT GREAT, SO NO RUSH TO BUY
Do not let the travelling spa show sales team talk you into an “impulse buy”. When you walk into the show, the prices seem high compared to what they claim on their website or TV ad.
888-SPA-SALE states in their commercial that there are hundreds of spas as part of a “warehouse clearance sale” or “factory direct sale,” but in reality they bring in three or four swim spas and twenty-five to thirty hot tubs from one manufacturer. By the time you get there and ask for the spa priced from $2,995.00, as promoted in their ad, they have conveniently sold the last one.
When the sales team says that the “spa expo” price is 40-70% off, this seems like a fantastic opportunity to save, right? Odds are that you will pay more for a hot tub or swim spa from the “travelling show” than at a local hot tub or swim spa dealer, and with no local or after the sale support, since that is difficult to do from Minnesota.
Typically the consumer does not know the base prices of hot tubs or swim spas especially from manufacturer to manufacturer. It is difficult to compare prices unless multiple dealers are visited. So, if you end up buying a spa from the travelling spa show and do not shop elsewhere, it is hard know if you left money on the table.
At the show, many buyers pay $8,000 for a $6,000 hot tub because the sales team convinced you that got some great factory discount, with a huge drop, this weekend only. Do your research and take your time to get the best hot tub or swim spa for the best price and put value on local support over the lifetime of your spa.
DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE SPA PRICE IS GOOD FOR “TODAY ONLY”
The sales team at this travelling hot tub and swim spa show are trained to close deals, collect a non-refundable deposits, and then give you more of a discount with a larger deposit. The sales team presents it as a “now or never deal,” but in reality, they have had a show at the Denver market at the Western Complex, for example, four times in 2018. Do not be a victim of falling for the line, “this price is only good for today only or this weekend only.”
NO SUCH THING AS A “CHEMICAL FREE” SPA
When a spa salesperson make claims that the hot tub or swim spa does not need chemicals, this is false, regardless of the brand of spa. An ozonator alone is an assist to use less chemicals, but you still need to add a sanitizer to kill the bacteria introduced by the bathers as well as something that oxidizes swimmer’s waste so it can filter out. The travelling spa show sales team claims to have chemical free spas because of their exclusive Master Spas EcoPur® filter. If that is true, then why do they deliver the spa with a starter chemical kit with cholrine and enzymes?
DO NOT SKIMP ON LOCAL SUPPORT FOR YOU HOT TUB OR SWIM SPA PURCHASE
Master Spas and Pools, the travelling spa show claims to have spa repair technicians in your local area which is not true. Master Spas Manufacturing subcontracts out to third party local repair technicians, who may or may not be competent and will then charge you travel charges to perform warranty work at your site. Sometimes these charges are greater than $300-$500 depending upon your distance from the technicians. This is unpleasant news when you have just paid $8,000 for a $6,000 spa. The subcontractor repair technicians do not care about you because you are not their customer. Master Spas and Pools does not pay for the technician’s trip fee, you do.
