THRML AIRCAP 1™ Spa Cover Review — Colorado's Best Hot Tub Cover

Discover why the THRML AIRCAP 1™ is the last spa cover you'll ever buy. Air-core insulation, zero water absorption, and 5-star reviews from Colorado hot tub owners.

Most spa covers fail within three years. The AIRCAP 1™ is engineered to outlast your hot tub.

If you've owned a hot tub for more than a few years, you already know the story: the foam cover that came with your spa starts out fine, then slowly gets heavier, waterlogged, and less effective until you're wrestling a 90-lb dead weight off your spa every time you want to soak. Carefree Spas has been selling and installing hot tubs in the Denver metro for years, and the number-one complaint we hear from new customers is about their old cover. That's why we partnered with THRML to become one of their top-ranked AIRCAP 1™ dealers nationally — and why we stock covers locally so you're never waiting weeks for a replacement.

What Makes the AIRCAP 1™ Different

Traditional spa covers use foam cores — typically EPS (expanded polystyrene) wrapped in vinyl. Foam is a decent insulator when it's dry, but it's not waterproof. Steam from your spa condenses inside the cover over time, saturating the foam. Once the foam is wet, it loses its R-value and gains weight — sometimes 50 lbs or more over a few seasons.

The AIRCAP 1™ takes a completely different approach. Instead of foam, it uses a rigid air-core chamber as its insulating layer. Air is one of the best natural insulators available, and unlike foam, it cannot absorb water. The cover weighs 35–40 lbs when you buy it and 35–40 lbs ten years later. The R-value doesn't degrade. The cover doesn't sag, crack, or grow mold.

It's a fundamentally better design — and once you've used one, going back to a foam cover feels like going back to a flip phone.

Why It's Built for Colorado

Colorado's climate is uniquely brutal on spa covers. You're dealing with intense UV at altitude, hail storms that shred vinyl, freeze-thaw cycles that crack foam cores, and heavy snow loads that bow and break traditional covers. Most covers sold at big-box stores are manufactured for mild climates — they're not engineered for what Colorado throws at them.

The AIRCAP 1™ is manufactured for Colorado's harsh climate. The outer shell is UV-stabilized and impact-resistant, designed to handle hail and the intense solar radiation you get at 5,000–7,000 feet. The rigid air-core construction doesn't flex and crack under snow loads the way foam does. And because it never absorbs water, freeze-thaw cycles that destroy foam covers have no effect on it.

We've had customers in Castle Rock and Parker tell us their AIRCAP 1™ looks as good after two Colorado winters as it did the day we installed it. That's not something you'll hear about a cheap imported cover.

What Our Customers Are Saying

We don't ask customers to take our word for it. Here's what real Colorado hot tub owners are saying about the AIRCAP 1™ on Google Reviews.

"I had a foam cover for four years and it was a nightmare by the end — heavy, moldy, and basically useless as insulation. The AIRCAP cover is a completely different experience. Light, easy to handle, and my energy bill actually went down." — Mike T., Highlands Ranch

"Carefree Spas recommended the AIRCAP cover when I bought my Aspen Spa and I'm so glad I listened. Two Colorado winters in and it still looks and performs like new. Worth every penny." — Jennifer L., Castle Rock

"I was skeptical about an air-core cover but the science makes sense. No foam to waterlog, no mold, no weight gain. It's the last cover I'll ever buy." — David R., Parker

AIRCAP 1™ vs. Cheap Imported Covers: The Real Comparison

Walk into any big-box store and you'll find spa covers for $200–$400. They look fine in the store. But they're made with thin vinyl, cheap foam, and no engineering for real four-season climates. Here's what happens over time.

Year 1: The cheap cover works reasonably well. It's a little heavy but manageable. Year 2: The foam starts absorbing water. The cover gains 10–15 lbs. You notice your energy bill creeping up. Year 3: The cover weighs 60–80 lbs. The foam is saturated and moldy. The vinyl is cracking from UV exposure. You're shopping for a replacement.

The AIRCAP 1™ costs more upfront — but when you factor in that you won't be replacing it every 3–4 years, it's the more economical choice over the life of your spa. And it performs better every single day in between.

Sizing, Availability & How to Order

One of the biggest advantages of buying your AIRCAP 1™ from Carefree Spas is that we stock covers locally. We carry 6 standard sizes and can typically have a cover on your spa within days — not weeks. No waiting for a slow boat from overseas. No hoping the size is right when it finally arrives.

Sizing the AIRCAP 1™ is straightforward. Unlike some foam covers that require precise corner radius measurements, the AIRCAP 1™ uses standard rectangular dimensions. Measure your spa's length and width at the widest points and we'll match you to the right size. If you're not sure, bring your spa model and we'll look it up.

We offer free shipping to all 50 states, but if you're in the Denver metro — Castle Rock, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Centennial, or anywhere in between — we can deliver and install it directly. Call us at (720) 408-8440 or stop by our showroom at 3736 Norwood Drive, Littleton.
